DISCIPLESHIP

What happens after we decide to receive
Jesus Christ as our Savior?

The Bible tells us in John 1:12 that whoever receives Jesus Christ as their Savior are now considered children of God. So we are now in God’s family forever.

We read in Ephesians 1:13-14 that after we believe, God gives us his Holy Spirit as a “down payment” on our inheritance. So now we’re in God’s family and indwelt by his Holy Spirit.

“The Holy Spirit will be our guarantee to our home in heaven, our Power here on Earth and our Guide through everyday life.”

We’re told that as new believers we are like babies in Christ. We simply don’t know of the many truths or doctrines that God has in his word. That’s why we’re encouraged to read our Bibles to begin learning more and more of the faith that we have entered into.

We need to start developing a prayer life. This is simply communicating with our Father in heaven through this discipline of making our needs known to him and also offering our thanksgiving and praise to him.

“We need to find a church that we can attend that will help in that process.”

It is extremely important that this church be a place that teaches true biblical doctrines. There are many churches that are not biblical in nature. Some even teach false gospels that tell people that they have to work for their salvation. This is not a church that you want to attend.

As new believers, we need to understand that we also have to navigate through the difficulties of life. Many “prosperity” or “feel good” preachers today tell their congregations that Christians don’t have to experience difficulties in life. They’ll offer some “formula” that will give you prosperity in life. Often that formula will include sending them money. Run from ministries like that. God never promised us a problem free life. He just promised us that he will be at our side regardless of what we go through. We’re told that nothing can come into our lives that doesn’t have to go through Him first. In his sovereignty, he allows different trials to come into our lives. He will use them to transform our character into a more Christ-like life.

“We’re encouraged to “fellowship” or spend time with other believers.”

This will allow us to begin to join a community of other Christians that we can do life with. Relationships can be formed that will make our lives more rewarding.

These are four simple steps that you can take as you begin to grow in your Christian life.
